Beaufie's Blankie

It's not design related but I had to share:)

Beaufort can chew through a toy likes it's nobody's business. Luckily, he doesn't touch anything that doesn't belong to him. His stranger habit is of sucking. If you give him a blanket, he becomes somewhat attached obsessed with it and proceeds to suck on it for hours. Sucking so hard that he tears holes in it.
This obsessiveness was a little irritating and I was tired of picking up little bits of blanket around the house. Therefore, a no more blanket rule came into effect.

But, let's face it.. I'm a sucker (of the different kind) and gave in one night when I thought that he seemed *sad*. My sister gave him the Snuggie for Dogs for Christmas. I wrapped him up in it and the rest is history.

Do you spy anything wrong with this picture?
Take a peek at the blanket after just one hour!

I snapped this picture just before I threw it in the garbage can while he wasn't home.. I know.. heartless:(

That was a few weeks ago and I thought he had forgotten about it. Tonight I got home from the movies and discovered this sheepish guy on the couch.
"Beaufort! That's mommy's snuggie!" (Yes I have one too.. also a Christmas present)

"I know! I'm sorry.. I couldn't resist!"

"Don't even think about taking it back though."

How can I not love him? We'll see about the snuggie though..

Happy Easter!

I hope you are all having a wonderful Easter around your place today. The sun is shining and Beaufort and I just got back from a lovely walk.
Here is a peek at some Easter touches around my place!

Some fun purple tulips brighten up my white coffee table. I also love the little lime green bird.

My white ceramic bunnies made an appearance again this year on the mantel.
And it isn't spring without a big punch of pussy willows!

Enjoy the day!

A Belated Birthday Wish....

Source: lushlee.com via Jane on Pinterest

to my humble blog... I can't believe I missed its first birthday!

On April 18th 2010, I published my first post on Modern Jane. I watched my traffic go from 100 visits the first month (mostly from me and my supportive sisters and mom) to an unthinkable 60, 000 this month. I have made some wonderful blogger friends and appreciate every single one of you who take the time to visit and comment. It makes me feel fuzzy inside:)

Overall, it's been a positive experience and I look forward to another year! Thanks again for all your support!

Emily's Bar Cart

So I guess it's obvious that lately I'm totally into having a bar cart. I place all the blame on Mad Men. I just finished season 4 and I feel almost empty inside.. what am I going to watch? And seriously, I have to wait until 2012 for season 5? That seems forever away! If you haven't followed Mad Men, you seriously should. Just saying..:)

Anyway, enough of the rant. It has come to my attention that I am not the only one that is smitten with the idea of a bar cart. Emily of Name 5 Things shared her new thrifted bar cart this week.

Here it is all styled up!

How's that for a liquor collection? I just love the look of all those glass bottles. The straws are cute too!
I think she should have us over for a party:)
Head over to her blog and check out the rest of her post.

Thanks so much for all your comments about my coffee table. While I'm still not loving it, I think I'll sit on the white for a while. I'll style it up over the long weekend!

Unsure.

I got to work and painted my new thrifted coffee table for the living room. I contemplated going yellow, blue or even green but of course I ended up with my trusty white! But now I'm unsure. I thought white was always right?
I was really happy with how it turned out until I put it back in the room. When placed against the cream rug, it just doesn't feel right. Maybe I just need to live with it a bit and I'll see.

After:

It is still a bit tacky, so I'll wait a couple of days before I put anything on it, just to be safe.
So looking forward to the long weekend! How about you?

Chin Chin!

I've been furiously trying to catch up on my Mad Men episodes which has inspired me to do something with my thrifted bar cart. (* side note.. Is is possible to both hate and love Don Draper at the same time?)

I'm not a frequent drinker and I certainly don't have a liquor collection that demands to be showcased. There is just something glamourous and grown-up about having a bar cart on hand.. ready to be wheeled out for your guests!
These images inspire me. What do you think?

Trois Amours ~ Modern Jane

I'm wrapping up my Trois Amours Series with my three favorite things in my own home. I may bring it back again sometime but for now - that's it! It was so fun to see what things make some of my favorite bloggers love their home.
So to recap, the challenge was to decide what three things you love most. This could be:

•that one piece that finished off a room
•a great find or a steal of a deal
•a sentimental item
•or simply something that makes you smile when you walk into a room!

I took a walk around my home and decided that there were 3 things that stood out to me. Things that for whatever reason make me smile. Here they are in no particular order.

The first one is more a sentimental thing. At the top of the stairs, I have a gallery wall of photos that are important to our family. I love the cohesion of the black frames grouped together.

This one is my favorite.. my mom and dad at their wedding. Mom is wearing her "going away" outfit:)

The second is the soft blue cabinet in the dining room. I wish I had the before picture. It was once a terrible honey brown and I painted it. Sometimes people are surprised when they see it in the day, assuming it was white. I love the barely-there blue color and it's fun to mix up the accessories inside.

The third is my kitchen as a whole. It is my proudest DIY (with a lot of help). It was done on a tight budget, but I feel that the result is a great "bang for your buck". My brother built all the cabinets and I did all the painting myself. I chose simple finishes like crisp white subway tile and a pine countertop.

But of course, I added a bit of glam with two chandeliers and my favorite feature of all is the glass knobs on the cabinet doors.
So there you have it! It's so important to have things in your home that you love. I look forward to filling it with more items that make me smile. A huge thank you to the other bloggers who particpated in the series. You can check them out here:

That doesn't stop me from pouring over pretty springish things online that I would love to put into my shopping cart. I'll share, then maybe you can buy something and I can live vicariously through you!
