Happy Halloween!

We had a such fun evening on Saturday night. I generally say I don't like Halloween because of all the stress but once I calm  down, it's actually kinda fun. I wish I had brought my camera to the party so I could share some of the costumes with you. We had a lot of good laughs. Some people are so creative and FUNNY!

Here are a few shots of us before we headed out!

I was Lady Gaga with Diet Coke cans in my hair thanks to my friend Cheryl!
Steph was LMFAO and did a bit of shuffle-ing throughout the night.

I forgot to get a shot of our Yummy Mummies with the mustard dots on their eyes but you get the idea. Thanks to Steph's mom who pulled through and helped with these!

I loved our Beaufort pumpkin even though we nearly killed each other in the process.
It is never as simple as it seems when you start out!
Yes, I know his nose is terrible but when you overcut, there is no going back.

What do you think? See a resemblance?

Steph gave me a little shot out at the party. Trying to drum up some business:)

Beaufie didn't want me to leave. Or maybe he didn't recognize his mom with all that makeup on!

We made sure to bring the pumpkin back home so that we would have it for tonight.
Clearly, it wasn't meant to be, as it rolled off the table within minutes of walking in the door.

Hope you have a spooky, fun night!

Getting Our Craft On.

It's Halloween craft day with the kiddies today. I love doing this Halloween project with my class. I think it's one of those things that parent's keep instead of tossing *gasp!* after the holiday is over. Should be fun!

Bright + Cheery House Tour.

Sometimes I feel like there aren't enough hours in day. Yesterday consisted of working all day, skipping over to Frenchy's in search of pieces for a Halloween costume, picking paint colors for a client, exercise, making supper, tidying up, snuggling Beauf., and finally fitting in the latest Boardwalk Empire episode (love btw). Can someone tell me how people with children do it all! :) So much for finishing my latest diy, and other activities planned! Oh well, another day.

Remember I won this necklace? It was made by the creative Jess Constable. She's the brains behind the blog Makeunder My Life and the shop Jess LC. Yesterday, her bright and sunny apartment was featured on Apartment Therapy.

\

On busy days, I dream of having a place just like hers. Far from over the top, it feels serene and calm yet cheery at the same time. I love the palette, the mix of patterns and the simple vignettes. How could you not sit, relax and smile if that was where you were cozying in for the evening?

Well done Jess! Head over and check out the rest of the tour here.

Words to Live By.

My friend Kendra sent me these yesterday, knowing I would love them. I tracked the source and they come from Marni Jameson's book House of Havoc: How to Make–and Keep–a Beautiful Home Despite Cheap Spouses, Messy Kids, and Other Difficult Roommates. Ha! Too funny:)

I am a big believer in all of these but need to constantly remind myself of them. Maybe I should post them on my fridge. Or even in on my credit card:)

What about you? Do abide by any of these when decorating your home?

btw.. 2 months from today is Christmas! Yay!!

*couldn't resist

Halloween Around Home.

Happy Monday everyone! It was yet another beautiful Fall weekend here on the island. I spent Saturday
afternoon in the western part of the island with a client (whose living room is coming along beautifully!) and stayed close to home the rest of the weekend. Yesterday, we made homemade soup and biscuits which was perfect for a Fall day. You know what that means - lots of leftovers for today. Yum:)

I'm not a big holiday decorator, other than Christmas of course! But I decided to share a few simple Halloween vignettes around my home with you today.

A black feather wreath adorns the front door with a black satin ribbon. This literally took 2 minutes to make. I just wrapped two feather boas from the Dollarama around a wreath form.

A tiny cake stand in the kitchen is home to a white pumpkin.
Anyone else have the problem with their pumpkins rotting in these?
No big deal but I am constantly checking it for fuzz.. :)

A few more simple arrangements....

And last, my mantel. Stephane is a lover of Halloween. Me, not so much. I thought I'd be nice and make the attempt at spooking things up a bit here. It turned out kinda cool but unfortunately doesn't photograph very well so you're just getting a peek.

The best part about it was that he actually took an interest and helped out which was fun!
The EEK letters were from Walmart and I spray painted them black. We added an extra feather boa and a mask to the mirror and threw up some cobwebs. Add some white pumpkins from my Fall mantel and voila! It's supposed to have a glamour Halloween feel:)

Have a super week everyone and have fun getting those costumes ready!

Can You Guess?

Can you guess what these photos have in common?
I guess after yesterday's post, you think I'm into making you guess at everything!
Humor me and play along:)

Did you guess? If you think wall color, you got it! All these photos feature Benjamin Moore's new Color of the Year 2012. It's Wythe Blue HC-143.

I'm not surprised by the choice of blue. It's inherently classic yet has the ability to soothe and calm us. Plus, it's ever popular in bathroom and sea/beach inspired designs.

I actually considered this color for my front door, until you all convinced me to keep the green! I'm still considering it for the porch ceiling, like the above photo. Ahhh... but then I'd have to nix the green door.. hmmm... I'll worry about that next summer!

Fun fact of the day for you!  Wythe Blue is the color of the foyer in the Mad Men home of Don and Betty. If you are a crazed fan of the show, like me, it's cool to know! Check it out.

I'm off to two days of Teacher's Convention. Always a good way to feel inspired and recharged! I'm hoping I don't seize up in the afternoon. I completed the toughest CrossFit workout (actually workout in general) of my life last night. The workout was called "Filthy Fifty", which included 50 of everything. Kinda loved it though:)

Anyway, I'm curious. What do you think of Wythe Blue?
Have you used it in your home?

Do you have a favorite paint color?

Dream a Little Dream Home ~ Take One.

I've been mentally compiling a list, for fun, of all the things I would include in my dream home. Some are things that I may someday have and others are things that I can only dream about and that's okay. It's was makes it fun!
Today, I thought I'd share with you, one feature I dream about. Can you guess what it is?

Did you guess? Is it obvious that I'm infatuated with herringbone and chevron patterned wood floors?

I especially love the wide planked slightly battered ones found in Paris apartments. They are quintessentially French, are they not? I love anything Parisian. In my home, they would be slightly worn and scuffed from years of history. That way when you came to visit, I would never ask you to take your shoes off, not even your heels! *gasp!*

So it's decided! All I want for Christmas this year is a Paris apartment with herringbone floors. Simple enough:)

What I've Been Up To...

It's been a busy few days! Yesterday I was part of a Marathon Relay team with my CrossFit Summerside
team. We finished 8th among 34 teams and had a blast doing it, despite the windy conditions! Here we are coming into the finish line together! It was a certainly a great day!

I found out last night that I won a giveaway over at Pudel-Design! You should head over and help me pick which print I should pick. I'm currently loving this one and should likely make a decision and let her know! It's called Faithfulness and looks just like Beaufort:)

Speaking of crossfit. I skipped out on tonight's class because Stephane and I were tangled up (quite literally) in a DIY project. We are currently on the fence about its cool factor but here is a sneak peek anyway..

Ok so maybe you got a better shot of Beaufie than the actually project but he is just so cute. Freshly bathed and in his new polka dot collar. Apparently, he thought that a bouncing pink volleyball was worth breaking out of his last collar for...
We will keep you posted about the aforementioned project. It really could go either way and we have frequently changed our minds in the last hour we spent working on it! :)

Mmmm.... Sugar Pie.

Some people were asking yesterday for the recipe for sugar pie. I figured that with Thanskgiving still to arrive for my American friends, I'd share. I was always a pumpkin pie fan girl but this pie rocks my socks!

Here it is, adapted from Recette du Quebec.

4 cups brown sugar
3 tbsp. flour
10 tbsp. butter, melted
2 eggs, beaten
2 cups (500ml) carnation evaporated milk
1 tsp. vanilla
2 pie shells

1. Combine brown sugar and flour. Add milk, butter, eggs and vanilla.
2. Pour into 2 uncooked pie crusts (we used Tenderflake but make your own if your so inclined:)
3. Bake in 350 degree oven for 30-35 mins.

We put it in the fridge after it cooled a bit to ensure it was set. This recipe also halves very well.
So delicious and so easy! Just try it and let me know what you thought!
