Raising the Bar.

I've got bathroom finishes on the brain this week. More specifically, shower curtains and rods. We considered doing glass doors on the tub/shower but for a number of reasons have decided to go with a standard shower curtain and rod. I think having some fabric in the room will add some softness to the space so I'm glad we made that decision.

I'm quickly realizing that while I'm dying for the walls to be tiled so I can actually shower, I'll need a curtain rod and curtain to be able to do that! Time to get organized. I'm fairly certain that I want a white shower curtain. Shocking, I know. And what I'm absolutely certain of, is that it be extra long so I can hang the curtain rod quite high.

I love the look of a long shower curtain because it feels more dramatic. It instantly adds height and space to the room. But most of all, in our bathroom, I really don't want the rod to cut across your sight line of the window in the shower. The higher we hang it the less obstructed the view.

Our bathroom mid renovation.

Originally, I assumed I could just order the 84 inch length linen curtain from Restoration Hardware (standard is 72 X 72). But upon measuring, I realized it that still won't be quite long enough. I've found a few sources online but nothing jumps out at me as the real winner. Looks like we might be going custom.

I've ordered an extra long liner to at least get us started. Who knows when I will make up my mind about the curtain. What are your thoughts? Do you hang your rod higher? I'd appreciate any sources you can share!

  2. My husband is 6'11" so I knew I wanted our shower curtain hung high--the full 84". I got the liner from Bed Bath & Beyond and ended up getting the charcoal Ritva curtain panel from IKEA (we have the white ones in our bedroom) and had it hemmed to the 84". Then I just used the clip rings from IKEA to attach the curtain to the rod. Cheapest option I could think of. (I think the panels are $25 for 2). That's what we ended up doing. One downside that is a bit annoying--the rings of the clip rings aren't super wide, so it isn't super smooth when you pull the curtain closed. Not a big deal for my giant of a husband since he's right there to adjust it. More annoying for me since I'm obvs shorter. I do love how it looks. Hope that helps some! And can't wait to see it all come together. EEK! How exciting:)

  3. We ended up using two table cloths from Target as the shower curtain. Super long, already hemmed, and luxuriously thick in folds since there's so much fabric with two. It was also really inexpensive and they can be washed easily.

  4. I love the longer look. Looks so much more dramatic. You may be forced to DIY one I think!

  5. I love longer shower curtains and we used a curtain panel for ours. You can buy a premade one from ikea or even just use a length of fabric that you love! If one width of fabric isn't wide enough, maybe you can do two panels on either side? Reno is looking good!!!

  6. I love a longer shower curtain as well but couldn't find it. Instead, I purchased two curtain panels with bronze grommets at the top and used a bronze tension rod. I installed a second tension rod for the inner shower curtain liner. I think it looks great. Ironically, I just posted pictures of my bathroom on my blog this week so you can check it out if you like (www.dreammom.blogspot.com). I moved into a townhome that had been totally redone and I couldn't fathom adding a short 72 inch shower curtain to the beautiful travertine tile. I chose a tan linen like drapery panel that has a little shimmer in it and it matches beautifully . Very elegant. I searched high and low on the internet for longer shower curtains but couldn't find any. I think using any white curtain panel in the longer lengths will work fine as long as you measure. The curtain panel I chose was the Alton grommet top panel-it was 54 wide x 84 long and the color of the curtain panel was tan. They come in longer lengths however I wanted to leave a little area open on the top to show off the travertine tile. Good luck.

  7. I love the look of a long shower curtain - my husband is tall, so we need the extra height. I think a taller curtain will frame your window beautifully. Speaking of the window - we have one in our bath too (we just moved in this house a few months ago and converted the tub into a shower/tub). I read how you sealed yours and are going to tile around it, will you have any wood around it at all? We've been kicking ideas around how we want to deal with ours, and I'd really like to not have to move the shower to the other wall to avoid the window. Your bathroom is looking fabulous!

  8. I just took our curtain all the way to the top when I spruced up our bathroom and I love it. It makes the whole room feel bigger and I feel like I have more room in the shower.
