I Heart Super Black Mulch.

When I moved into my house the weeds in the overgrown side garden drove me insane. I dug everything out and turned over the soil every few days and I still couldn't keep them all at bay. Last summer, we rented a tiller and turned all the soil but the weeds prevailed. I ended up tearing out most of the plants and starting over.

This summer things were a little better but I decided mulching it would help. It looks so much better. It's a bit more expensive than the other colors but I simply love the super black fine mulch. My brother took me out yesterday with his trailer and we bought a scoop. More than enough to cover the garden.

Here is the garden prior to mulch. Good ole' PEI red soil!


And here is the garden now. The plants really pop against the black and it feels so much tidier. Here's hoping that it's less weeding for me!



I'm really happy with how it turned out!
Off to the beach today. It's supposed to be a hot one!

    Is it odd that I've NEVER seen black mulch? I usually go for cypress, which I like over the other options. But, I may have to try black in the future. It really does clean up garden beds and keep weeds at bay.

    Wow! It looks great! What a difference! We mulched over our whole garden this year... just couldn't handle the weeds anymore!

    we use the black mulch, too, and it makes the plants really pop! i love how fresh and clean looking it stays, too!

    I love black mulch as well! Makes everything just look sharper and cleaner. I love your garden. I need to start working on mine but the heat here is just too much.

    Black mulch is my favorite. It looks so fresh and makes to colors in the garden pop. Good luck, I hope it keeps the weeds at bay. We are having a big problem with them as well.

    Your fence is the perfect backdrop for that garden! Looks great. A tip for next year--before you mulch, spread newspaper on the ground, then cover with mulch. It really helps to keep the weeds at bay.

    Your landscaping is beautiful! Those flowers really pop against the black mulch. I haven't seen black mulch in our area but now I've got to research it and find some. I love the look. It's much more striking!

    I love it too! It only took one experience with that crazy red mulch running all over the driveway when it rains!

    Those flowers are gorgeous!! and you're right, the black mulch looks PERFECT with them. I don't have any flowers in my garden, but I sure wish I did now!

    I use that too and love it. Your flowers look gorgeous. We also lay down that black fabric first {around the plants} with the mulch on top. No weeds can grow through. Happy beach day! :)
