Barn Doors. Yea or Nay?

I was watching an episode of Candice Tells All, where she puts a sliding barn door in a kitchen/family room. A very rustic element in an otherwise modern space that totally worked. It gives that modern farmhouse vibe that has been so popular of late.

It got me thinking about my sister's attic. She has been planning a major renovation of the attic of her
home and would love to put a rustic, sliding barn door in the washroom. I think it would be an amazing architectural element in the space.
I searched pinterest for some inspiration.

My absolute favorite.

So what about you? Does the rustic charm of a barn door paired with clean lines make you swoon too? I'd love to hear your opinion.. yay or nay?

  1. I am a fan of the look. I did this in a friend's house whose bathroom was open to his bedroom (like in a hotel). I used a salvaged door and it turned out great. Plus he liked the "manly" rustic look it added.

  2. I've never met a barn door I don't like. My in-laws just installed them in their basement and they are seriously fabulous and really handy, too. They get totally out of the way for moving things through door ways which is handy.

  5. I LOVE the look of barn doors in homes. I generally prefer the natural/stained ones to the painted ones, but that yellow one is pretty appealing!

  7. I really like them but it depends on the setting for me. I really like the one with the windows up top - so cute!

  11. I LOVE them! It adds such a unique architectural element to a room while functioning similar to a pocket door (I love when things don't take up a whole lot of space)!

  14. YEA! Although I wonder about the noise/privacy depending what sort of room you use them on.

  15. I think these spaces all pulled the barn door off beautifully. I like how some of them made it modern by painting it a bright color. It's a unique element that adds character to a home!
