Kitchen Makeover - Let's Make It Ours

People often ask me if I think they should paint their kitchen cupboards. It's a tough call really. I know that it almost seems wrong to paint solid wood cabinets if they are in good condition, but I really do think that it just brightens things up so much. Therefore, my vote is always YES!
Previously, I mentioned that Jen from Let's Make It Ours decided to paint out her oak cupboards. Well, after many nights of painting after her children were fast asleep, it is finished! I think the result is amazing!
Let's take a look at the before:

And, here is the beautiful after:

They removed the cabinet that was jutting out and replaced it with open shelving, which brightens up the room and lets us see the great chalkboard wall!

So what do you think? Is it always okay to paint wood cupboards or are there exceptions? I'm a painted cupboard fan... just don't say "I told you so" if it isn't the trend next year :)

Head on over to Jen's blog and check it out! Her holiday mantel is adorable:)

  1. I say PAINT - PAINT -PAINT! I painted ours 6 years ago and they still take my breath away. Plus a white kitchen IS timeless. It is the perfect blank canvas for any culinary endeavor. Note...the Food Network chefs LOVE white kitchens: Giada, BC, etc.

So I am definitely on your side with this. :)

    Cheers~

  5. Painting cupboards is fine, but once the white trend is over (think white gold wedding bands and bright colors) there are going to be a lot of people who are going to spend days and days stripping down their wood. Everything is cyclical and some people jump on the bandwagon and others don't. Like everything else, you can chose to admire a look without adopting it yourself. It's the best thing about decorating: there is no wrong or right.

  6. I think you should go with what YOU like and not with trends. White looks awesome in this room.

  7. I am a wood fan. I love the soft "feel" of wood. I would only paint old, plywood cupboards that are really "tired". My opinion only!!
