Front Porch Progress.

Tuesday is the first day for students at school so only one day left of summer vacation! I'm looking forward to meeting my 15 grade two students and settling into a routine. I took a look back at my summer to do list and sheepishly realized that I didn't get nearly as much accomplished as planned. I forgot how time consuming it is just to look after grass and gardens!

Oh well, I did (mostly) finish my porch, minus a few details, so I thought I'd give you a little peek!
Here are some before shots:
The rickety old stairs and post had to go!

The floor boards had certainly seen their day!

As I mentioned in a previous post, the plan was originally to just replace the stairs and the floor boards. My brother is a bit of a perfectionist and decided, rightly so, that the whole thing needed to be torn out and replaced. It was more work and money than anticipated but definitely the right decision. The only thing that was spared were the railings.

Here it it mostly finished.

I obviously decided to keep the green door after LOTS of encouragement from my loyal readers!

I painted the stairs, new post, trellis and railings Para's Weathervane, which is the same as the trim around the windows. The floor boards and the long board across the front are pressure treated lumber and therefore can't be painted until next summer. Oh well! One less thing to accomplish for now:) I think I'll go with another shade of grey but I have some time to decide over the winter! I also gave the house a fresh coat of white paint and touched up the trim.

I can't wait to pretty it up with some Fall mums and pumpkins. I still need new house numbers, doorbell and a welcome mat. I'm also looking forward to not worrying that my trick or treaters might fall down those steps!

I'd love to hear what you think! Wish me luck at school! I still get those butterflies every year!
